Colby-Sawyer College Hosts Performance by Classical Pianist Jayne Kelly

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College will present a performance by New Hampshire-based pianist Jayne Kelly, a musician acclaimed for her virtuosity and sensitivity.

The performance will take place on Wednesday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in Wheeler Hall of Ware Campus Center. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

In her solo concert, Kelly will perform Chopin's Ballade #3 in Ab Op. 42; Polonaise in Ab Op. 53; Two Nocturnes, Op. 15 No. 2 in F# and Op. 27 No. 2 in Db; and Ballade #4 in F minor Op. 52 as well as Rachmaninoff's Morceau de Fantasie; Hopak (M. Mussorgsky); Lullaby (P. Tchaikovsky) and his Etude-Tableaux in A minor Op. 39 No. 6. “Jayne Kelly is an extraordinary pianist who plays with elegance and simplicity,” says David E. Brandeis, professor of music at Franklin Pierce College. “She possesses the virtuosity and agility to meet the music's rhythmic demands and presents a brilliant performance with integrity, flair and taste.”

Kelly grew up on Long Island and began studying piano at the age of eight. She has recently recorded a CD featuring a wide range of compositions from the classical period through contemporary works. She has also recorded “Recurrences,” a new composition by New Hampshire composer Marilyn Ziffrin. In addition, Ms. Ziffrin has written a piano sonata for Kelly, which the pianist premiered in Concord, N.H., in 2006.

Kelly's technical skill and expressiveness, along with her ability to find the inner voices in a wide variety of classical pieces, have won her many followers. While pursuing an ever-expanding performance career, Kelly continues to maintain a full teaching schedule. Although she enjoys students of all ages, she specializes in working with adults, and has more than 40 students in her three New Hampshire studios.

The performance is sponsored by the Cultural Events Committee at Colby-Sawyer College.
