Colby-Sawyer College To Host Third 5K Fun Run/Walk For College and Communities

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Colby-Sawyer College will host its third annual 5K Dash and Stroll, a non-competitive fun run/walk for people of all ages.

President Thomas C. Galligan Jr., an avid runner who launched the event in his first year at Colby-Sawyer, invites college and community members to participate in the event on Saturday, Sept. 13. All members of the college and surrounding communities are invited to participate, and the event is free of charge.

Participants should register on the event day at Lethbridge Lodge, located on the college's New London campus. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with a start time of 9:45 a.m. for walkers and 10 a.m. for runners.

The first 100 registered participants will receive a complimentary event T-shirt. Light refreshments will be available. The route for runners and walkers begins at Lethbridge Lodge and winds through downtown and residential areas.

The event celebrates the close relationship between the college and its neighboring communities, which began more than 170 years ago when community members established Colby Academy. In 2006, approximately 125 runners, walkers and strollers, ranging from babies and elementary school students to college students and local seniors, participated in the inaugural College-Community Dash and Stroll with President Galligan. In 2007, despite heavy rainfall, a hardy band of about 25 runners and walkers dashed and strolled through New London.

President Galligan looks forward to this year's event, which he hopes will become a college-community tradition. “It's great way to bring college and community people together at the beginning of the academic year," he said, "and everyone can go at their own pace. I look forward to another great 5k this September."
