ABSN Clinical Experiences

Apply what you learn in Colby-Sawyer classes and labs at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center or another healthcare center that matches your interests.

During clinical rotations and preceptorships, you’ll broaden and deepen your knowledge, hone your skills, gain a sense of the specialties you may want to pursue and experience personal and professional fulfillment.

Early Immersion in Clinical Learning

Within your first month of ABSN classes, you’ll gain hands-on, supervised experience in a clinical setting. You’ll continue to expand your knowledge during specialty clinicals in pediatrics, obstetrics, medical/surgical acute care and mental health. Clinicals take place one to two days per week, Monday through Friday.

During your final semester, you’ll take part in a preceptorship — working one-on-one with an experienced nurse in such areas as hematology special care, post-anesthesia care, emergency care, cardiac intervention and pediatrics.

Our active approach to nursing education will provide you with opportunities to sharpen your decision-making skills, develop confidence and progress from being a student to a professional practitioner.
