Bicycle Patrols
Bicycle Patrol Officers (BPO) maintain direct contact with community members while being able to cover large areas of the campus relatively quickly. Recent BPO initiatives included several "Bike Rodeos" present in concert with the New London Police Department, providing bike safety instruction and practical application to young children of the surrounding community. Also presented this summer was a BPO safety program, offered to Safety/Security Officers of consortium schools by our state certified instructor.

Property Protection
Project Engrave provides campus community members the use of engraving pens, free of charge, to mark and record all valuable property.
How it works:
Project Engrave discourages thieves because engraved items are:
- Difficult to pawn
- Easy to identify as stolen property
- Easy to reclaim as your personal property because ownership is simple to prove.
The Program Is Easy:
Engraving pens are available through the Campus Safety Office. You should:
- Engrave all your valuable items with a unique identifiable number.
- Record these items on the property guide provided.
- Register your unique identifiable number with Campus Safety.
What Items Should Be Engraved?
Computers, stereos, tools, bikes, televisions, cameras, radios, musical instruments, cars, telephones, typewriters and anything else that's valuable to YOU!
One More Thing ...
The college is not responsible for lost or stolen property. You should check to see if your homeowners insurance covers your belongings while they are at Colby-Sawyer. Your insurance agent can tell you if you need to purchase additional coverage.
Personal Safety Escorts
Lost & Found
Campus Safety maintains an on-campus lost & found for items found throughout campus. Items are inventoried and stored in campus safety. While every attempt is made to locate owners much of our Lost & Found inventory goes unclaimed.
If you have lost an item - and can describe/identify it - please contact Campus Safety to see if it has been turned in.
Campus Patrols
Safety Officers on duty provide ongoing monitoring of the campus through scheduled and random patrolling. Officers are alert to security and safety conditions such as unauthorized visitors, disruptive behavior, defective lighting, inoperative doors or locks, fire hazards, defective walkways, and evidence of vandalism.
Campus Safety should be notified in person or in writing when entry into campus academic buildings is necessary after business hours. Safety Officers monitor the parking lots to deter incidents, maintain open access, and to ensure compliance with the college parking policy.
Van Operator Training
Thanks for your interest to become a 15-passenger van operator at Colby-Sawyer College. A 15-passenger van behaves much differently from a passenger car. Most people do not know that 15-passenger vans are more likely to roll over than any other type of vehicle. Understanding and using safe van-driving techniques will drastically reduce the risk that you or your passengers will suffer injury or even death. After taking this course, you will; understand the differences between driving a 15-passenger van and driving a car, describe effective driving preparation strategies, select safe and appropriate van driving techniques and identify procedures to safely conclude your trip.
