Internships & Careers

Turn Your Passion For Sports into a Rewarding Career

Our sport management program provides you with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the dynamic world of sport. You'll learn from industry professionals, gain hands-on experience, and build a strong professional network to launch your career.

Internships Put You on the Inside Track

Pre-professional experiences allow you to test drive your chosen career path while you develop your skills, enhance your resume, network with industry professionals and get a head start in the job market.

Your Career is Off and Running

You have combined hands-on coursework across the liberal arts with discipline-specific learning in and out of the classroom. It’s time to take your skills, knowledge and passion out into the world of sports and make your mark. It’s go time!

Alternative Game Plan

Affiliation agreements with Plymouth State University and University of New Haven mean you have even more choices for your future. You can move directly into a master’s degree program in a related field of study immediately following graduation.

Bridging the Gap Between the Classroom and the Arena

In the fast-paced world of sport, experience is the ultimate currency. At Colby-Sawyer College, our Sport Management curriculum is intentionally designed to move beyond traditional lectures, transforming the entire industry into your classroom. We don’t just teach you the business of sport—we immerse you in it.

Action-Oriented Coursework

Learning here is active, not passive. Our faculty integrates Experiential Learning into the core curriculum, ensuring that your class assignments aren't just theoretical exercises. You will tackle real-world challenges through projects developed alongside both internal campus departments and external community partners. Whether it’s developing a marketing plan for a local organization, organizing sport events, or developing new sport programs and initiatives, you are solving the industry’s current problems while still in school.

Professional Immersion & Internships

To ensure you are "career-ready" upon graduation, our program emphasizes high-impact field experiences:

  • The Practicum Course: Early in your academic career, our required practicum provides a structured introduction to the professional environment, allowing you to observe and contribute to sport organizations.

  • Internships: Pre-professional experiences allow you to test drive your chosen career path while you develop your skills, enhance your resume, network with industry professionals and get a head start in the job market

  • Internal and External Partnership: Our own Intercollegiate Athletics program serves as a laboratory for learning. Students often secure on-campus roles in athletic communications/sports information, game-day operations, and marketing, gaining hands-on experience right here on campus. In addition, the sport management program partners with local colleges/universities like Dartmouth College and the local youth and adult recreational organizations.

  • The Sport Management Club: Your Professional Network

  • Professional development extends far beyond the syllabus. Our student-led Sport Management Club acts as a bridge to the industry, offering a platform to:

  • Attend Industry Conferences: Represent the college at regional and national workshops to stay ahead of emerging trends in the ever-changing industry of sport.

  • Network with Experts: Engage in exclusive Q&A sessions and networking events with guest speakers and successful alumni who are currently leading in the field.

  • Build Community: Join a cohort of driven peers who share your passion for the business of sport.

Our Philosophy

We believe the best way to learn sport management is to do sport management. By the time you walk across the commencement stage, you won't just have a degree—you'll have a professional portfolio and a network of industry contacts.
