Joined the faculty in 2004. Received BA from University of Vermont and Ph.D. from University of Maryland. Teaching interests include freshwater biology, conservation biology, ecology, water resources, and environmental studies. Research interests are in freshwater foodweb dynamics, aquatic macroinvertebrates, water quality, ecosystem structure and function, particularly relating how aquatic organisms respond to changes in water parameters such as pH, conductivity, and nitrogen, phosphorus, dissolved organic carbon concentrations. Read more

David Lutz

Assistant Professor, School of Arts & Sciences

Dr. Lutz joined the faculty in 2023 after six years as a research assistant professor at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He has focused his research on the use of satellite imagery, computer models and sensor networks to understand forest ecosystems and environmental change. He has led numerous grants investigating regions throughout temperate, tropical and boreal forests around the world. Read more

Teaching topics in natural history, environmental policy, sustainability and the relation between organizations and the natural environment. Currently pursuing research in biodiversity conservation and sustainable agriculture. Professor Malan holds the M. Roy London Endowed Chair. Read more
