Shannon Sciria ’09, who has more than a decade of coaching experience at the collegiate and high school levels, has been appointed head coach of the Colby-Sawyer College men’s basketball team.
Sciria played for the 2008-09 Colby-Sawyer squad that posted a 20-8 record and earned a berth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournament.
From 2018 to 2021, he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Chargers. And, during summer 2021, he stepped in as acting men's head coach.
“We are thrilled to welcome Shannon back to Colby-Sawyer in this leadership role,” said Jen McKillop, director of athletics.
“His dedication to student-athlete development, his passion for the game, and his connection to the Charger community make him an ideal fit for our men’s basketball program.”
Sciria, who majored in communications and minored in sociology at CSC and earned a master’s degree in sports management and leadership at Southern New Hampshire University, said he’s deeply honored and humbled to be chosen for the job.
“My heartfelt thanks to Jen McKillop and the search committee for believing in my vision and entrusting me with this incredible opportunity,” he said.
Most recently, Sciria was an assistant men’s basketball coach and career advisor at New England College. He helped guide the Pilgrims to a share of the 2021-22 New England Collegiate Conference regular-season championship and a 2022-23 runner-up finish.
Sciria led NEC’s national and international recruitment efforts and played a key role in recruiting and developing the 2022-23 NECC Rookie of the Year.
Sciria's enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge about basketball and the college will help him develop leaders on and off the court.
“This is more than a coaching position — it's a chance to build something truly special with our student-athletes, to inspire excellence and to represent a community that values hard work, integrity and growth,” he said. “I can’t wait to get started.”
