Mountain Day 2025: Higher education that provides perspective
Beth Staples

On Sept. 15 — Mountain Day 2025 — hundreds of Colby-Sawyer students, faculty and staff wearing tie-dyed T-shirts hiked Mount Kearsarge.

They followed in the footsteps of the school's predecessors from the previous 170-plus years: Climbing the 2,937-foot mountain has been a custom at the institution since the 1850s, when Dr. H. Leslie Sawyer was headmaster of Colby Academy.

Chargers chose one of two routes to reach the bare rock summit, gain some perspective, enjoy the spectacular panoramic views and pose for photos.

Thank you, Anthony Riso ’16 for capturing the fun and beauty of one of the college’s most-beloved traditions. Below are a few of his incredible shots.

Colby-Sawyer students, faculty and staff can access and download Mountain Day 2025 photographs on the college PhotoShelter  platform and at Anthony Riso Photography (Password, CSC25).

A peak experience.

On the way up.

Are we there yet?

We did it!

Hiking is fun!

Capturing the moment.

The pup deserves a treat for that climb.

Appreciating the stunning view.

President Dean McCurdy signs the banner at the summit.
