Clinical opportunities, personalized support drew Jeffrey Huckins ’27 to nursing program
Marketing & Communications

Jeffrey Huckins ’27, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in nursing, is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Below is a lightly edited Q&A with the resident of New Hampton, New Hampshire, who is minoring in performing arts.

Why did you choose Colby-Sawyer and the Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing?

I chose Colby-Sawyer because of how personal everything is. Because it is such a small school, all the professors know your name and care about your individual success. The nursing program is tight-knit, and I have really found a place where I feel comfortable and where I belong.

How have you grown as a scholar and person in the program?

Colby-Sawyer nursing has had a profound impact on developing my work ethic, study habits and confidence in my abilities as a learner. It has also instilled in me a passion and pride for nursing as a profession and allowed me the opportunity to positively impact the lives of patients.

Please describe any particularly rewarding or defining courses or experiences.

I think the most impactful thing about my nursing journey has been the meaningful relationships I have had the opportunity to create with my professors and classmates, as well as the way in which I have been able to apply the things I learn in class to supporting patients in the clinical setting.

Anything else you’d like to share with readers, including prospective nursing students?

I am so grateful to take part in this program and work toward a career that allows me to help others and leave a positive impact on this world. Being a nursing major takes a lot of dedication and commitment, but it is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I would absolutely recommend Colby-Sawyer to anyone interested in learning to be a nurse in a personalized and impactful way.
