Colgate Hall inspiration for college's student-designed holiday cards
Beth Staples

Colby-Sawyer's 2025 holiday cards will feature the artwork of students Kathryn Quinn ’26 and Stacy Hannings ’14, ’26 MBA.

Quinn’s graphic design of a candlelit Colgate Hall during a nighttime snowfall will adorn the President's Office card and Hannings’ digital photograph of a Colgate entrance decorated with a wreath and evergreen garland will highlight the Advancement Office card.

Colgate, the college’s stately sprawling central building with a cupola, was built in 1911.

Quinn is enrolled in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. She gained experience in graphic design while pursuing her first bachelor’s degree in communications.

“Being able to utilize my skills from my previous degree, even with this switch in career, has been great for me to hone my creativity,” said Quinn, who is from Warwick, New York. “Colgate is the first place I went when I visited campus after being accepted into the ABSN program.”

Hannings, who lives in Peterborough, New Hampshire, holds a BFA in studio art from Colby-Sawyer and is pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree.

“As both a photographer and alum (and current grad student), I’m always drawn back to Colgate Hall — the heart of campus and a symbol of home,” said Hannings, the communications manager for the Advancement and Admissions offices.

“This image celebrates its beauty and the sense of belonging it represents for all who have walked its steps.”

This year, the holiday card cover art contest was open to all Colby-Sawyer students — undergraduate and graduate, pursuing any major or degree. Quinn and Hannings will each receive a $100 gift card.

The print and digital cards extend peace and joy to college friends with various faiths and traditions. The selection committee invited submissions that embrace the beauty of Colby-Sawyer and the season.
