Colby-Sawyer College recently approved tenure, promotion, endowed chair positions or emerit status for eight faculty members. Hilary Williams, interim academic vice president and dean of faculty, made the announcement May 15 at a campus meeting.
Laura A. Sykes ’98, interim college president, said the faculty achievements reflect the deep dedication, intellectual rigor and creative energy that define Colby-Sawyer’s academic community.
“We are proud to recognize our colleagues for their scholarly accomplishments, outstanding teaching and meaningful service to the college,” she said. “Their contributions continue to shape the transformative education we offer our students and strengthen the future of our institution.”
Ann Fournier and Scott Horsley received tenure and Iris Fischer-McMorrow received tenure and promotion from assistant to associate professor.
Fournier, an associate professor in the School of Nursing & Health Sciences, coordinates the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. She holds a Ph.D. in nursing, an M.S. in healthcare administration and an MSN with a specialty in acute care.
Horsley has an MFA in drawing and painting and an MFA in painting. The associate professor in the School of Arts & Sciences is the program coordinator for studio art & graphic design.
Fischer-McMorrow, now an associate professor in the School of Arts & Sciences, has an MVB in Veterinary Medicine from University College Dublin in Ireland and is a licensed veterinarian. At Colby-Sawyer, she also is an academic advising liaison.
Jason Vallee, who has a doctorate in human organizational development, was also promoted to associate professor. He is based in the School of Business & Social Sciences and coordinates the Wesson Honors Program.
James Jukosky and Kate Turcotte are the college’s newest Sonja C. and William H. Davidow Endowed Chairs. An endowed chair, a position permanently financed by the revenue from an endowment fund, is a position of honor in the academic community and is among the highest tributes a donor can give.
Jukosky has a doctorate in molecular, cellular and systems physiology. The professor in the School of Arts & Sciences is the natural sciences program coordinator.
Kate Turcotte has a doctorate in sociology and is a licensed clinical social worker. The professor in the School of Business & Social Sciences founded and directs the Master of Social Work program.
Two retiring faculty members — Leon-C. Malan and Darcy Mitchell — were granted honorary emerit status for their distinguished service.
Malan, who joined Colby-Sawyer in 1994, taught business administration, then environmental science courses. The professor in the School of Arts & Sciences and the M. Roy London Endowed Chair developed the college’s field studies courses and managed the permaculture garden.
Mitchell, who joined the college in 2010, was a professor in the School of Business & Social Sciences and a Sonja C. and William H. Davidow Endowed Chair. She forged Colby-Sawyer's partnership with the Upper Valley Educators Institute and designed the college’s child development major.
