Colby-Sawyer College earned a No. 1 ranking in the Best Undergraduate Teaching – Regional Colleges (North) category in the U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best Colleges rankings released today.

According to U.S. News & World Report, the Best Undergraduate Teaching rankings reflect colleges “whose faculty and administrators are committed to teaching undergraduate students in a high-quality manner.” This is the third time the college has earned a No. 1 ranking in the category and the fourth time it has placed in the top two.

Colby-Sawyer’s No. 1 ranking was earned through nominations by top college administrators solicited through a survey, according to the U.S. News & World Report website. The survey asked top academics — college presidents, provosts and admissions deans — to name schools they believe “have faculty with an unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.”

“We are pleased to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top college in the region,” Colby-Sawyer Interim President Laura Sykes ’98 said. “Our faculty’s commitment to teaching is a source of pride to the institution, and it is consistently reflected in the feedback we hear from both current students and alumni.”

With an average class size of 19 and an 11:1 student to faculty ratio, Colby-Sawyer delivers undergraduate programs in three schools: the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Business & Social Sciences and the School of Nursing & Health Sciences. Through small, interactive classes, field experience opportunities, clinicals and required Capstone projects, students at Colby-Sawyer work closely with faculty members as they pursue programs that blend professional preparation with the liberal arts.

Colby-Sawyer also earned a No. 4 ranking in Best Value – Regional Colleges (North) and a No. 17 ranking overall in Regional Colleges (North). In the overall category, U.S. News recognized Colby-Sawyer’s academic reputation, cost of attendance and return on investment, placing it in the top 25% of regional colleges in the north, which includes New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.

“The recognition as both a best regional college and a best value college reflects Colby-Sawyer’s commitment to providing a transformative education and to making that education accessible to students through lower tuition and transparent pricing,” Sykes said. “It is those commitments that enable us to prepare students to thrive in, and make a difference in, a dynamic, diverse world.”
