Outdoor Adventures
The Colby-Sawyer campus and the surrounding Lake Sunapee region provide breathtaking landscapes and opportunities to get outside and explore in every season. Whether you’re hiking, skiing or simply taking a moment of solitude, you will find your place in our beautiful, natural environment.
Morris Trail
The Morris Trail circles the Kelsey Athletic Campus off Seamans Road. The hiking trail, completed in 2017, is a moderately difficult 1.8-mile loop.
Susan’s Swamp
Susan’s Swamp is a wetlands area on campus between Danforth Hall and the Lethbridge Lodge. It is frequently used by environmental science and environmental studies students working on landscape management and water management projects, and it is a lovely spot for birdwatching and enjoying quiet moments.
Mount Kearsarge
Mount Kearsarge, visible from campus and the site of the college’s annual Mountain Day celebration, is accessible from Winslow State Park in Wilmot and Rollins State Park in Warner. It is a popular hiking destination and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.
Mount Sunapee
A popular ski resort and site of the college’s annual spring Ski Day, Mount Sunapee is a 15-minute drive from campus. Students are provided with a free ski pass to Mount Sunapee, which features 67 trails and slopes, covering 233 skiable acres.
Field Studies
In our field studies programs, students explore ecological and social topics in classes, then participate in immersive experiences in river, tidal, desert or alpine communities.
