A World of Opportunities

Study abroad is open to all Colby-Sawyer students who have at least sophomore status and are in good academic and social standing with the college. Students are encouraged to adopt a perspective on learning that reaches beyond their own regional and cultural vision. Studying abroad allows students to travel internationally and experience other countries and cultures.

Colby-Sawyer has affiliations with seven organizations that provide programs for students who want to study abroad in many countries around the world. Our program affiliates offer study opportunities that will complement a student's degree program. International internships are also available and often count towards a student's internship requirement in their major.

 

AIFS Abroad

Travel to Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and Latin America. Semester costs range from $8,000–$20,000+ depending on location and program length. Comprehensive support, including tuition, housing, cultural activities, and 24/7 emergency assistance.

API Abroad

Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Ireland and Japan. Semester programs typically range from $7,000 to $18,000+ and include housing, orientation, advising and cultural excursions. API is recognized for its personalized advising and strong student support throughout the study abroad experience.

CIEE Study Abroad

Spain, South Korea, Japan, France, Germany and Costa Rica. Semester costs range from $8,000 to $22,000+ and include tuition, housing and often insurance, cultural activities and emergency support. CIEE emphasizes intercultural learning, internships and scholarship opportunities.

CIS Abroad

Spain, Italy, Greece, Costa Rica, Ireland, South Korea and Japan. Semester programs typically range from $6,000 to $16,000+ and include housing, insurance, excursions and student support services.

SFS School for Field Studies

Environmental and sustainability-focused programs specializing in hands-on field research in locales such as Costa Rica, Peru and Cambodia. Semester costs range from $15,000 to $25,000+ and often include housing, meals, field excursions and research opportunities. 

WorldStrides

Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and Oceania. Semester programs range from $7,000 to $20,000+ and include tuition, housing, cultural excursions, orientation and emergency support services. The organization is recognized for its extensive on-site assistance and immersive cultural programming.

Florence School of Fine Arts

Specialized programs in studio arts, photography, painting, printmaking, game design, Italian studies and liberal arts. Students study and create in Florence while benefiting from accredited coursework, housing, studio access and cultural programming.

Florida Atlantic University  

The FAU Domestic Exchange Program allows students to study at FAU while remaining enrolled at Colby-Sawyer College. Students earn credits toward their degree while experiencing a different region, campus culture and academic environment within the United States. 

The study abroad program at Colby-Sawyer College works with students to find affordable options. Most federal financial aid (Pell Grants, Subsidized Stafford Loans, Unsubsidized Stafford Loans) will transfer to your semester abroad.

If you choose a program that Colby-Sawyer is affiliated with, you will pay the cost of your chosen program minus your Pell Grants and/or Stafford Loans to Colby-Sawyer. Colby-Sawyer will then pay your study abroad program fee directly. If the affiliated program you choose costs more than what you would normally pay to attend Colby-Sawyer, the net difference will be added to your tuition bill. Keep in mind that you will be responsible for all travel expenses and additional deposits required by the provider. If your program is NOT one of our affiliated programs you will not be eligible and will need to pay all provider costs directly.

Colby-Sawyer College recognizes the value that students with international experience bring to the classroom and their other academic endeavors. Students who study abroad also satisfy these learning outcomes: enrich and deepen their self-knowledge, communicate and interact effectively, and understand and employ multiple perspectives. A liberal arts curriculum combined with an education abroad strengthens students' ability to pursue vocations in the global community.
