Assistant Professor Andrew Cahoon, who joined the faculty in 2007, began his appointment as interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences in July 2025.
Andrew led the development and launch of the data science minor at Colby-Sawyer and recruited a student cohort for the program. He teaches courses in physics, mathematics and data science.
He also serves as quantitative literacy coordinator and was a co-principal investigator on a grant from the National Science Foundation for the EMERGE Scholars Program that recruits academically talented students and prepares them for success in careers and graduate studies in science, technology, engineering and math.
Andrew's research interests include mathematical modeling of physical systems and the pedagogy of mathematical reasoning.
He holds a Master of Science in physics from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of Maryland. At Yale, Andrew had research assistantships in nuclear astrophysics at the Wright Nuclear Structure Laboratory, as well as in general relativity and ice physics. His certificates and workshops include an Applied Data Science Certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a short course in Radio Astronomy at the Green Bank Observatory.
