Campus Compact EnviroCorps Member
Colby-Sawyer College has partnered with Campus Compact EnviroCorps (CCEC) to bring a dedicated EnviroCorps action leader to our campus. CCEC is an initiative of Campus Compact and aims to empower campuses and their community partners to drive meaningful change by implementing local solutions that improve energy efficiency and support at-risk ecosystems, particularly in underserved households and communities.
Campus Compact, a national nonprofit organization founded in 1985, promotes civic and community engagement in higher education. Today, it works with 485 member campuses across the nation, fostering collaboration between colleges, universities and their surrounding communities. CCEC is funded through AmeriCorps, a federal agency dedicated to improving lives, strengthening communities and fostering civic engagement through service and volunteering.
At Colby-Sawyer, the EnviroCorps leader spearheads sustainability-focused projects and environmental initiatives on campus as well as in the surrounding community. These efforts will prioritize reducing energy consumption, enhancing ecosystem health and hosting educational events to raise awareness about environmental challenges. By involving the local community, the EnviroCorps leader will foster collaboration and create impactful solutions that benefit both people and the planet. In the past, these efforts have included organizing Earth Day events, removing invasive species both on campus and in public spaces, forming partnerships with local climate groups, hosting student education events, conducting home energy audits and more.
