WSCS is a non-commercial educational FM radio station located in New London, NH.

Studio and transmitter are located on the campus of Colby-Sawyer College.

how to get a show

You do not have to be a communications studies major or minor to have a radio show. The sign up process is quite simple. At the start of the fall semester WSCS holds a table at the activities fair. When you show up to the table you will be asked to fill out a card telling us when you would like your show. All shows are for a minimum of one hour but you are usually signed up for two hour blocks. Also, you'll be asked to sign up for training at the table.

After filling out the card you will be asked to attend a required informational meeting usually held that same week. At the meeting you'll meet the executive board and get all your burning questions answered.

Following the meeting you'll get a tour of WSCS. After the meeting, eboard gets together to make up the schedule and notifies everyone by e-mail. All you have left to do is attend a training session and you'll be ready to have your show.

A member of the student run executive board sits in with all new DJ's during their first show to answer any last minute questions and to help make sure everything runs smoothly.

The Training Procedure

Before any student goes on the air must attend a ½ hour training session. During this session the student will learn how to use the studio console, the procedure for turning on and shutting down the transmitter, and take meter readings. You will also learn the ins and outs of the show and transmitter logs at this session.

The music director gives each new DJ a tour of the music library and explains the rules and regulations, the playlist sheets, and mandatory playing of five new releases each show.

All this information is also included in the “DJ Bible,” an operations manual for WSCS hosts. You'll get a copy at training.

Failure to attend a training session means no show for you that semester. Training is mandatory.
