Comprehending Green

When the green light flashes across the sea
Gatsby watches the glow with baited breath
With hope to see the beautiful Daisy
The longing following him into death
The northern lights do dance across the sky
Traveling like waves along a canvas
There green tendrils confuse and mystify
The power they have still remains ageless
Green is a force of unrequited pain
And a power we cannot comprehend
It sings out to Gatsby’s aching refrain
And yet it is a force that cannot end
Life goes on with pure green blood in its veins
And humans taint the purity life drains
