Journey to the Bottom of the Ocean

your first steps are dry
similar to that of your mind
unable to grow green ideas.

you reach the foamy barrier
churning before your sandy toes
the first step is the hardest.

purse your lips,
straighten your back,
step forward.

unfamiliar feelings nag you to look back
salty water nips at your ankles. press on.
rise up. meet the wave before you.

choose to go in over your head.
strive for the things in life worth having
a warrior for knowledge- urge on.

the salt may sting your eyes at first-
kindred to seeing, but not yet believing
feeling as though you should join the school.

bits of seaweed antagonize your senses
your mind electrified as the moray eel flies
overjoyed as this knew world welcomes you.

vast as the ocean.
