Fabricated Fledglings

Iíve seen a strange creature, in my travels.
Its plumage vibrant, a unique color,
and when a whole flock gathers together

They are without doubt a wild animaló
in spite of their more urban habitató
The beasts must be held tightly by a leash.

Perhaps due to their taciturn nature
they are cheaper than fish, just a quarter.
Children delight in these ornery pets.

They are shown off at different gatherings:
Formal meals that demand black-tie getup
as well as birthday parties and cookouts.

a great, sharp noise, then they plummet to earth.
Their child will cry over their limp, ripped body,
and beg for one that still hungers for sky.

Pigeonholed as a Pauper

Such a diva, it
struts and bobs with
style, yet still
it pecks at dregs.
Color blooms rose-
pink and blue on
Feathers flecked
with tiny gems.
Perhaps those glitters
That are littered
can be true gold.
