Christine Wertz

Translation

How brightly white stars illuminate skies
against an omnipotent cosmos, guiding a wandering being. Believe
such guidance brings forth the lost discovery,
the one which provokes, so menacingly,

just out of reach. The burning dream scalds heart
and mind with pleasure, and the endless gnawing
at every synapse in your infested mind
screams against you, grasp the stardust wall.

The scarred master sifts amongst the grass
which seems gravely uneasy yet
still compared to the chaos surrounding;

war was the sole captor holding ransom
that which you crave: at last you see what
it is you’ve lost. How sweet the peaceful silence.

Christine Wertz is a senior English major at Colby-Sawyer College with a minor in education. Her passion for writing began young as did her love for great literature. By the time she was in Kindergarten she was reading 6th grade level books and in the highest reading group possible. Her passion for theater helps her develop her creative drive and channel the characters she attempts to create. Writing is a form of therapy for Christine and she hopes to explore the therapeutic effects of writing in her Capstone along with the power of slam poetry.
