The Wide World
The wide world waits
Waits for a moment of clarity
In a storm of indecision
Faith, like the ebb and flow of ocean tide
Pulls one way
And then another
The wide world sees
Sees the heavy storm clouds
That threaten eternal light
Heaven, like a forgotten treasure
Is found and lost again
In ephemeral regard
The wide world hears
Hears the omnipotent thunder
That overpowers reason
God, like the voice of love
Calls us back again
And gives us shelter from the storm

Ashley Miller is currently a sophomore at Colby-Sawyer College. As a Psychology major with a minor in Child Development, she does not often delve into the art of poetry. However, she enjoys exploring her capacity for writing: to reach beyond the realm of the psychological and into the heart and soul.
