internships and careers

Learning On Campus…

At Colby-Sawyer, 100 percent of students complete an internship before graduating. Those in the Education program begin accumulating field-based experience at the end of their first year.

Colby-Sawyer's Windy Hill laboratory school gives Education students professional experience and opportunities to integrate the theories they learn in class with their observations of young children. They work with qualified teachers in one of three programs: toddler, nursery or kindergarten.

…And Off Campus

The education option requires students to complete specific coursework for education, including a full-semester, 15-credit teaching internship in the senior year.

During the internship, the student teacher gradually assumes responsibility for the operation of the classroom with final responsibility for planning the curriculum, teaching, and supervising staff and volunteers. Each student teacher keeps records of lesson plans, conducts parent conferences when appropriate, attends parent functions, and attends faculty meetings at the cooperating school. General criteria for admission to the student teaching internship include acceptance into the Teacher Preparation Program and approval by the supervisor of student teachers and by the cooperating teacher.

Graduate School Opportunities

The College has an affiliation agreement to assist qualified Baccalaureate Degree graduates from Colby-Sawyer College into the graduate and teacher certification programs at Plymouth State University.
