internships and careers

Learning On Campus…

At Colby-Sawyer, 98 percent of students complete an internship before graduating. Education minors and those pursuing teacher certification begin accumulating field-based experience at the end of their first year, and can explore many career options.

Colby-Sawyer's Windy Hill laboratory school gives those in the Education program professional experience and opportunities to integrate the theories they learn in class with their observations of young children. They work with qualified teachers in one of these programs: toddler, nursery, kindergarten or after school (grades 1-3).

…And Off Campus

In consultation with faculty, students select and apply for internships which best match their acquired knowledge of child development and their skills and interests. During their required senior-year internship, students gain intensive practical work experience and valuable professional contacts. In the past, student interns have:

  • taught in grades 1-3 in local public and private schools

  • helped produce reports for social service organizations

  • assisted in evaluations of families

  • been a consistent and sensitive presence in child care settings

  • aided children during hospitalizations

Harrington Center for Career and Academic Advising
