Biology major Colby Chase '11 spent a month last summer in Finland studying the sea duck known as the Common Eider.

Colby lived and worked at the Tvärminne Zoological Station, located 62 miles southwest of Helsinki. His mission: to study the factors affecting incubation constancy in the Common Eider. He was a long way from home, but he wasn't alone. He was there at the invitation of Colby-Sawyer's own Professor of Natural Sciences Ben Steele, who had taught Colby in his terrestrial ecology course. read more…

The Biology Program is designed to give students a broad education in all aspects of biology, preparing them for careers in the field and for professional or graduate programs. The program takes full advantage of the Lake Sunapee Region's natural classrooms and the laboratory facilities of the Curtis L. Ivey Science Center.

The Biology Program offers two options: a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Biology that can be combined with any major.

Colby-Sawyer is the recipient of a five-year, $15.5 million grant to promote biomedical research in New Hampshire. The NH-INBRE partnership provides opportunities for students and faculty.

Field Studies…

Colby-Sawyer College offers a variety of field studies courses and also has an affiliation agreement with the School for Field Studies for an international experience.

Pre-Med, Pre-Vet Programs and Graduate School Affiliations…

Colby-Sawyer has pre-med and pre-vet curriculi as well as affiliation agreements to assist qualified baccalaureate degree graduates from Colby-Sawyer College in gaining admission into the graduate programs at Plymouth State University and Springfield College.
