My Colby-Sawyer Experience

“I used a lot of the research and writing techniques I learned in my philosophy and media studies classes. Now that I know I can do something as large as this project, I have a new sense of confidence.”

frequently asked questions for parents

Top FAQs: Spring 2009 Edition

1. Will I be sent copies of my student's grades?
• No. Your student's grades are available on IQ Web and your student can sign in with their CSC username and password. We encourage parents to speak with their students regarding their individual course grades.

2. When is Spring Recess/Break?
• Our Spring Recess takes place from March 7th – March 15th. During this time there are no classes, the dining hall is closed, and the large majority of our students leave campus. If your student has a college-related reason for staying on campus, your student (not you!) needs to contact Karin Berthiaume at x3455.

3. I've heard the term housing lottery and room draw – what does this mean and what is the process?
• Room draw is our housing selection process for the 2009-2010 academic year. Room draw takes place in April, but students start preparations in March. Your student will be getting a Colby-Sawyer Room Draw 2009 information/registration form soon. There RA's and RD's will be on-hand to answer student questions and concerns about the process and the steps your students need to take in order to prepare themselves. If you are interested in having a copy of this flyer sent to you through email, please email me at parents@colby-sawyer.edu.

4. I would like to send my student a care package – are there places in town that can help?
• Yes! Our local businesses make wonderful packages, cakes, and flower arrangements. I am working to gather this information into one place on this webpage, but until I do, please contact me to get this information at parents@colby-sawyer.edu.

5. I don't want to bother my student, but I am curious about what is going on at Colby-Sawyer.
• If you would like to know the activities going on from week to week, please check out our campus calendar or look at the “This Week @ Colby-Sawyer” section of the Parent's Page.

6. The end of the semester comes quickly! Can you tell me when the last day of classes takes place?
• The last day of classes for the 2008-2009 academic year is April 28th. Students will then have final exams. Final exams take place from April 30th – May 5th. It is expected that your student will leave after their last final exam or by May 5th (whichever comes first). Commencement for seniors takes place on May 9th.
