March

March was an interesting month. Spring break was among us, and spring fever began to set in. The massive amounts of sunlight that woke us up each morning seemed to grow brighter as the days passed. The week before spring break, the work was piled on once again. Everything was crammed into one week, and it was difficult to juggle packing and schoolwork once again. When Spring Break arrived, so many people I knew went on exotic vacations to far off lands, while I sat at home and worked. I didn't want to go on vacation, but at the same time, I didn't want to not see my friends from school. My roommate and I drove 5 hours to Connecticut to visit our good friend the first Monday of break. We took a train into New York City and spent the day eating, breathing and shopping New York. The end of the month came, as well as my birthday on the 26th. It fell on a Saturday, the day before Easter. As much as I wanted to go home, I realized that my friends that I'd grown up with wouldn't be there waiting when I returned. They were still at school. I wanted to see my family as well, but I knew I would see them the next day so I decided to stay at school. Some of my friends did too, and we had a blast! They bought me a cake, and as I looked around at their smiling faces staring at me, I wondered what I had done in life to meet such wonderful people. Watching them hold that cake and say happy birthday meant so much to me because at that moment I realized how much they cared. Some stayed that weekend just for me and drove home early Sunday morning, like I did. I thought it would be hard spending my birthday at school but it wasn't. It made me appreciate my friends so much.

March Tips

  • When it's your student's birthday and he or she can't go home, don't call him or her until after 12pm. Let him or her sleep in. He or she deserves it.

  • Congratulate us when we get good grades. Cards are always fabulous. Don't get mad when we ask to go away for Spring Break. We know you want to see us, but it is our first Spring Break.

  • It's only a week. Don't make us work the whole time. We want to see our friends too.
