Commencement Information
On May 13, Colby-Sawyer College will hold its 168th Commencement. The college will honor students for their academic, leadership and athletic achievements. Also among those who will be recognized for their contributions to the college are faculty, alumni and friends of the college. For more information, please click here.

Capstone Projects
The senior Capstone Project allows students to develop a deep understanding of a body of knowledge and a perspective that is informed by that knowledge. Majors culminate in capstone experiences, which range in credit from 0-15 credits. The Capstone course is also a requirement of the Liberal Education Program. This semester, there are several unique and interesting projects underway:

One Communications Studies senior is producing a training video for the Walker Home and School, located in Needham, Massachusetts. The Walker Home and School is an assisted living and learning community, providing a range of services for 3- to 22-year old emotionally, behaviorally, and learning disabled students and their families.

A senior from the Community and Environmental Studies major will complete a forest inventory for a parcel of land near the Owl Brook Hunter Education Center in Holderness, NH. The student will determine the significant features of the forest, such as types of tree species, health of the forest, and the amount of harvestable timber, and make recommendations to the state for managing and utilizing the parcel for education.

Club Profile: Students In Free Enterprise
Each month, the Parent and Family Relations Office will profile a different club or organization at Colby-Sawyer College to help parents become more familiar with the campus community. Feel free to encourage your student to become involved!

Students In Free Enterprise, more commonly known on campus as S.I.F.E., educates people in the college and surrounding communities about different aspects of everyday business-related life, such as finances, ethical decisions, and skills to assist in the work world. S.I.F.E. recently hosted an Ethics Night, during which a lawyer and a local businesswoman presented about their experiences with business ethics.

On March 27, the S.I.F.E. team will venture to Boston for a Regional competition. During these competitions, colleges compete against other colleges and present projects completed over the course of the school year. The club will be judged on entrepreneurship, communication, and the use of media to convey messages. Last year, S.I.F.E. was the runner-up at the regional competition, and two years ago the club made it to nationals.

Meetings are held every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in Colgate room 215. If your student expresses interested in becoming a member of S.I.F.E., s/he can contact co-presidents Katie Patrick (extension 3114) and Brianne Koch (extension 3565) for more information.
