“The first section of Betwixt and Between: The Honors Pathway was a crucial step in my assimilation process of becoming a college student.”

To the Parents of the Class of 2010:
Your students will be undergoing a significant transition during the first-year at Colby-Sawyer. There will be many challenges ahead such as making new friends, learning how to balance academics with social activities, and defining their lives in their new "home." The above quotation describes how many students feel when they return home for Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break. Their parents, their bedroom, and their physical surroundings in their hometown may appear very similiar to how they did when they left to come to college. However, they themselves will grow and change over the course of the year and returning home will often cause them to notice and reflect upon these differences.
Although each student experience is unique, there are some common themes to the first year. To help you better understand what your students may be feeling during each month of their first year at Colby-Sawyer, from move-in day to moving home for the summer, a Colby-Sawyer student has shared her experience with you. She tells you the story of her first year and offers advice to you regarding how to best support your student during this time. The text is divided into chapters by month, so feel free to take it all in now, or read each month as it approaches.
Enjoy the journey with your student, and feel free to contact Parent and Family Relations along the way.
