NEW LONDON, N.H., April 13, 2006 Audience members for this year's Colby-Sawyer College Singers spring concert will be treated to performances of work by such jazz composers as Henry Mancini, Duke Ellington and Bobby Troup. The Singers will also perform area composer Herbert Spencer's arrangement of Puttin' on the Ritz. Colby-Sawyer's very own Hilary and Cotton Cleveland will emcee the event.
The Colby-Sawyer College Singers annual spring concert will take place on Thursday, May 4 at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center Theatre. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Colby-Sawyer College Singers is a unique group of talent that includes students, faculty, staff and members of the surrounding communities. Along with group performances, the concert will include several solo, duet, trio and quartet pieces. Director Michael Civiello chose a range of entertaining pieces for the concert, including an acappella version of Peter Gunn, the theme from the similarly named popular detective show from the late 1950s.
Preparing this jazz and swing concert has been a challenge for all of us because the rhythms and harmonies are more complex than in the traditional music we might perform, Director Civiello says. He feels confident the challenging pieces and new changes to the group's organization are sure to delight the audience with its fresh, ear-inspiring resonance.
Members of the Colby-Sawyer Singers include sopranos Cindy Benson, Nancy Edwards-Cogswell, Mary Eid, Alice Field, Jennifer Kiely, Kyle Koch, Nancee Leach, Ashley Leukart, Molly Mullen, Allison Pyles, Deborah Reed, Laurie Shaughnessy, Kelley Smith-Hull, Caitlin Sousa and Rebecca Spitz; altos Brenda Balinger, Lauri Baudanza, Sarah Blaisdell, Pat Clement, Nicole Eaton, Alicia Harris, Amy Knisley, Linda A. Lambert, Amber Richardson, Nina Rogers, Olivia Storey, Kathy Taylor and Kara Watts; tenors Carol Foss, Ashley Goulter, Mike Gregory, Pat McNamara and George West; and basses Don Coonley, Jay Lambert, Tom Maloof, Herbert Spencer and Michael Warning.
The Singers will be accompanied by Jean Liepold. Instrumentalists are David Gray on percussion and Bill Zimmerman on bass.
