Prometheus Dance Company to Bring Intense Energy, Theatrical Twists to Performance at Colby-Sawyer College

NEW LONDON, N.H., Sept. 14, 2006 — Colby Sawyer College will host contemporary dance and theater company, Prometheus Dance, known for high energy, theatrically choreographed performances.

The company will perform on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. in the Sawyer Fine Arts Center Theatre. Tickets may be purchased through the college box office at 526-3670. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students and children and will go on sale Thursday, Sept. 28.

Prometheus Dance is an ensemble of eight dancers created by Artistic Directors Arvanites-Noya and Tommy Neblett. The company's mission is to create works that inspire audiences and raise vital human issues, as it has done through large-scale works such as “Apokalypsis,” which addresses the worldwide refugee crises.

“During the past decade, Prometheus Dance has emerged as one of the most intellectually challenging, visually stunning and physically gratifying companies in the area, says Karen Campbell of The Boston Herald. “The company's distinctive work is usually intense, often powerful, and seldom easy, and is brought to life by a corps of first-rate dancers.”

Founded in 1987, Prometheus Dance has become one of New England's outstanding and well-established modern dance companies. Named One of the Year's Ten Best in Dance by The Boston Phoenix in 2004, The Boston Herald in 2002 and The Boston Globe in 2000, the company performs extensively both across the country and internationally. The company has developed a highly charged and theatrical choreographic style, and its works are often described as visually beautiful, physically intimate and emotionally provocative.

“[The Prometheus dance artistic directors] have created a formidable dance repertory of which they can be truly proud,” wrote Theodore Bale of The Boston Herald, “and which represents an extraordinary contribution to cultural life in Boston.”
