Gary McGuey Leads a Discussion on Leadership and the Importance of Professional and Personal Ethics

NEW LONDON, N.H., Oct. 12, 2006 — Colby-Sawyer College will host a discussion on “Leadership and the Importance of Professional/Personal Ethics” presented by Gary McGuey on Tuesday, Oct. 24. McGuey will explore how a stable set of core values and principles can help leaders navigate a complex world and develop the capacity to deal with dynamic change.

The discussion will take place at 7 p.m. in Clements Hall at the Curtis L. Ivey Science Center. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.

McGuey is a high-energy speaker whose expertise and dynamic sense of humor create a challenging and trusting climate. A student of individual and organizational dynamics for most of his life, McGuey teaches principles that empower people to govern themselves more harmoniously. He maintains that these principles can provide leaders with strong sense of direction and ability to achieve success in a variety of activities, ranging from a fulfilling family life to developing a positive environment in one's school or work place.

McGuey has been an educator in both the public and private sectors. He has been involved with numerous programs, ranging from conflict resolution to student empowerment, and was instrumental in the creation and development of the Student Achievement Workshop program for Premier School Agendas. He is also a consultant with Franklin Covey, a leading management and leadership development organization. Franklin Covey was founded by Hyrum W. Smith, author of The Ten Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management, and Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, First Things First, and Principle-Centered Leadership.

Colby-Sawyer, founded in 1837, is a comprehensive liberal arts college located in the scenic Lake Sunapee Region of central New Hampshire.
