Colby-Sawyer Singers to Perform Holiday Music of Many Cultural Traditions
NEW LONDON, N.H., Nov. 24, 2010 - The Colby-Sawyer Singers will present Holiday Around the World for its annual winter concert in a celebration of the world's diverse musical traditions.
The concert will take place on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center Theatre. Admission to the event is free, and the public is invited to attend this festive holiday performance.
Holiday Around the World will feature songs that celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and other religious and cultural traditions. Among the selections from the program are holiday favorites, spirituals and a Japanese lullaby. Michelle Gosnell, an instructor at the Kearsarge Conservatory for the Performing Arts, will join the Singers for the performance of a Spanish-language piece from Venezuela.
Dancer Jen Cookingham of the Kearsarge Conservatory will perform a solo to Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. Colby-Sawyer's gospel choir, Voices of CSC, will also take the stage with the Singers during this multicultural performance.
Fine and Performing Arts Adjunct Assistant Professor Susan Cancio-Bello will serve as director of Holiday Around the World, with Jean Liepold providing accompaniment for the production. The CSC Singers includes the following members of the college and local communities: Kimberly Arena, Willie Bacote, Lauri Baudanza, Wally Borgen, Suzanna Brown, Carol Foss, Meghan Hardiman, Greg Johnson, Molly Kidane, Jay Lambert, Linda Lambert, Nancee Leach, Christopher McCarthy, Janie Mauriello, Anh Nguyen, Zui Nguyen, Deborah Reed, Anthony Salvatoriello, Michael Warning, Abigail Williams, Evan Wilson and Jeramey Winfield.
