Adventures in Learning, Colby-Sawyer College Celebrate 10-Year Association
AIL Presents College with Student Achievement Fund Gift

NEW LONDON, N.H. More than 200 people from the 15 Kearsarge-Lake Sunapee towns gathered on the Colby-Sawyer College campus late in May for the tenth anniversary celebration of Adventures in Learning at Colby-Sawyer College. Adventures in Learning is one of the state's leading lifelong learning organizations, offering nearly 40 courses per year along with debates, forums, and museum and theater trips.
Highlighting the celebration was presentation of a $25,000 gift to the college to establish a new endowed scholarship fund. Also included was the unveiling of the newly created Adventures in Learning logo and presentation of a 10-year PowerPoint retrospective.
Adventures in Learning President Betsy Boege opened the celebration program and introduced Julien LeBourgeois, the organization's founding chair. LeBourgeois reminisced about the founding days and acknowledged the support received from Anne Ponder, then president of Colby-Sawyer College.
Morris Edwards, chair of the AIL Curriculum Committee, noted the crucial role played by the organization's volunteer study group leaders, whom he described as truly the heart of the group. In recognition, the study group leaders were asked to stand in place and a special group of ten who had offered eight or more courses was awarded Distinguished Study Group Leader certificates.
AIL Vice President Arthur Rosen, acknowledged the support of the membership and of the college, particularly its program coordinator, Sharon Ames. He then asked Thomas Galligan, president of Colby-Sawyer College, to join him in the presentation of a $25,000 gift to the college.

Galligan responded, saying, We are proud and tickled to be partners with you in this endeavor. He added his grateful appreciation on behalf of the college and its students.
Two events followed, beginning with Maureen Rosen's unveiling of the logo she created for Adventures in Learning and then, as the house lights dimmed, presented her PowerPoint retrospective. The retrospective turned several boxes of photos into a full-screen, full-motion presentation. It served as a 10-year time capsule showing a vibrant membership and a range of joyful activities.
Adventures in Learning is a peer-led lifelong learning group with more than 400 members. Participants take courses for the love of learning and to meet others with similar interests. While there is no age requirement, the group is made up predominantly of retired people.
