NEW LONDON, N.H., April 7, 2006 — Two Colby-Sawyer College alumni will be featured during the next Poetry in the Afternoon series event. Kendall Perkins '86 and Seth Hurley '00 will read selections of their work on April 18 at 4:30 p.m. in the Cleveland, Colby, Colgate Archives in the Susan Colgate Cleveland Library/Learning Center. The series is sponsored by the Colby-Sawyer Friends of Poetry and the Colby-Sawyer Humanities Department.

Kendall Perkins has been a closet writer since she was eight years old, writing her first material while crouched in her parents' closet under the eaves. While at Colby-Sawyer, she completed creative writing courses and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in child study. After graduating, she held several teaching jobs before returning to school to earn a Master of Arts degree. She is now a free-lance writer and editor, having published a children's book and written for textbook publishers and museums. She lives with her two sons in Lyme, Conn.

Seth Hurley focused on Communication Studies as a student at Colby-Sawyer. He later earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Long Island University, where he was twice the recipient of the Alden Whitman Writing Award. His poems have been featured in numerous publications, and the magazine Redivider nominated Hurley for a Pushcart Prize in 2004 and 2005. He is an adjunct professor at Champlain College and lives in Burlington, Vt.

Colby-Sawyer, founded in 1837, is a comprehensive liberal arts college located in the scenic Lake Sunapee Region of central New Hampshire. Students from 26 states and six foreign countries learn in small classes through a select array of programs that integrate the liberal arts and sciences with pre-professional experience.
