New London, N.H., March 2, 2006 – Professor Jack Levin, an expert in hate crimes and related violence, will lead a discussion at Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday, March 23. Professor Levin explores the nature of hate attacks, the motivations of hate crime offenders, and the elements of campus life that support and encourage inter-group conflict and violence.

The discussion will take place at 7 p.m. in Wheeler Hall in the Ware Campus center. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

Jack Levin is a professor of sociology and criminology at Northeastern University. He also is the director of the Brudnick Center of Violence and Conflict at the university. He has authored or co-authored 23 books, including such titles as Mass Murder: America's Growing Menace, Killer on Campus, Overkill: Mass Murder and Serial Killing Exposed, Hate Crimes: The Rising Tide of Bigotry and Bloodshed, and The Will to Kill: Making Sense of Senseless Murder.

Professor Levin has appeared on several national television shows, such as “Larry King Live,” “The O'Reilly Factor,” “Today,” “Good Morning America,” “Oprah,” “20/20,” “48 Hours,” “Dateline NBC,” and all network newscasts. He has also led discussions in such settings as The White House Conference on Hate Crimes, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Justice Department, and the Department of Education.

In his presentation, Professor Levin will examine the characteristics and consequences of hate crimes, racial slurs, threatening phone calls and brutal assaults. He will draw upon his many years of teaching, researching and writing about prejudice and violence.
