NEW LONDON, N.H.,Nov. 17, 2005 — This year the Colby-Sawyer College Singers' holiday concert will feature the work of area composers, Kathy Lowe Bloch, David Chaves, Marilyn Ziffrin and Herbert Spencer. In addition to original music, the concert will feature traditional holiday music, student performances, and local composer and musician Kathy Lowe Bloch as the mistress of ceremonies. The CSC Singers are a talented and growing group of students, faculty, staff and local community members led by director Michael Civiello

The holiday concert will take place on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center Theatre. Admission is free to this event and everyone is welcome. Sawyer Center is a handicapped-accessible location.

The concert will include several duets, trios and quartets, and a brilliantly arranged piece based on Edgar Allen Poe's poem, “The Bells.” Civiello also arranged his own version of Mendelssohn's “Nërot Dolkim,” a beautiful song about the lighting of candles on Hanukkah.

Director Civiello studied harpsichord at Columbia University and piano at California State University-Fresno. Civiello has long aspired to offer a concert at Colby-Sawyer College that features local composers. Accompanist Jean Liepold studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

“The idea to have a concert of music by local composers had been in my mind since my first semester as director of the Colby-Sawyer Singers. Ten musicians were contacted about submitting either a sacred or secular choral piece related to the holiday season,” Civiello says. “The lead time to accomplish this concert took about 20 months. All the singers have taken to the music and I think that fact will make this a very special concert.”

Members of the Colby-Sawyer Singers include the following: sopranos Alyssa Coffey, Nancy Cogswell-Edwards, Mary Eid, Alice Field, Marge Judge, Jennifer Kiely, Kyle Koch, Molly Mullen, Allison Pyles, Deborah Reed, Pam Sanborn, Priscilla Sargent, Laurie Shaughnessy and Caitlin Sousa; altos Lauri Baudanza, Rosie Beranis, Nicole Eaton, Alicia Harris, Amy Knisley, Linda A. Lambert, Katie Migliaccio, Nina Rogers, Olivia Storey and Kara Watts; tenors T.J. Coffrin, Ashley Goulter, and George West; and basses Don Coonley, Jay Lambert, Herbert Spencer and Michael Warning. Flute will be performed by Nicole Fenton and guitar by G. Putnam.
