NEW LONDON, N.H., May 1, 2006 – “What Keeps College Presidents Up at Night” is the question Colby-Sawyer College Interim President Philip H. Jordan Jr. will address when he speaks at the seventh annual meeting of Adventures in Learning (AIL), the adult education program sponsored by the college.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held on Thursday, May 18 at 4 p.m. in Wheeler Hall at the Ware Campus Center. The event will be followed by a reception and an opportunity to meet the Colby-Sawyer College President-elect Thomas C. Galligan Jr.

The AIL membership will elect new Board of Director members who, in turn, will elect officers for the coming year. They will also hear committee reports and honor board members who have concluded their terms, including Julie Boardman, Bob Foote, Bob Scott, Sandy Stark, Gusta Teach and founding member Julien LeBourgeois.

Dr. Jordan is the president emeritus of Kenyon College, which he led from 1975 to 1995. He also served three terms on the Colby-Sawyer Board of Trustees. Before joining Kenyon College, Dr. Jordan served as a professor of history and dean of faculty at Connecticut College. He completed his undergraduate work at Princeton University and earned a Master of Arts and Ph.D degrees from Yale University. He has received many honorary degrees and awards which recognize his leadership in higher education. At last year's Colby-Sawyer commencement ceremony, Dr. Jordan received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

The Adventures in Learning program offers adults in the area opportunities to take classes on a wide variety of subjects. There are three terms a year with about ten to 12 courses offered in each term. Classes are taught by volunteer study leaders, many of whom have career experience in the subject matter. The program has a high level of participation and has received enthusiastic response.

Reservations for the annual meeting and reception are required and should be made with Janet St. Laurent at (603) 526-3690.
