Windcrossing Film Festival Premiers Hammer & Saw's '100: Head/Heart/Feet' and The Electric Feast's Web Series 'New Dublin'
Colby-Sawyer College's third annual Windcrossing: A Festival of Sight and Sound will feature the premiere of award-winning Hammer & Saw Films' highly anticipated feature-length documentary about ultrarunning, “100: Head/Heart/Feet,” and the pilot episode of a web series, "New Dublin," for media website The Electric Feast on May 3 at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center.
The festival celebrates the collaboration of Colby-Sawyer students, alumni, faculty and staff in the production of creative, original filmmaking. The filmmakers will be present for questions after the screenings. Windcrossing: A Festival of Sight and Sound is free and open to the public.
In “100 Head/Heart/Feet,” the producers of "Mote"l and "Exit 7A", alumni Mike Mooney '02 and Will Peters '06 follow ultrarunner Zak Wieluns '02 as he struggles to complete his first 100-mile ultramarathon in Vermont. Director Mooney examines the intense race preparations and their impact on relationships as well as the camaraderie among ultrarunners.
With a crew of 19 Colby-Sawyer College alumni, faculty and students, Hammer & Saw Films recorded every aspect of the grueling Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run, from the horses that accompanied the runners to the stations where runners refueled to the medical check points and the hospital tents. Director of Photography Peters captured and edited the stunning footage of Weiluns' struggles with heat and exhaustion against the picturesque backdrop of rural Vermont.
“100: Head Heart Feet” will appeal not only to the nearly 10 million recreational runners and more than a half-million marathoners in the U.S. but also to anyone who appreciates the noble struggle of a man training to take on a monumental physical feat … all while trying to maintain a “normal” life.
This year's festival also debuts the program's first foray into online content production with the pilot episode of "New Dublin", a web series created for The Electric Feast. Founded by Joe Delaney '12, Charles Moak '12 and Kameron Mertz '12 along with Ian Roberts, The Electric Feast provides “enough media, gaming, technology, music and literary content to bust your gut.” Learn more here.
Cinematographer Delaney worked with Aaron Hodge '14 to film the pilot episode, which jumps through time from the 1600s to present day and through space from Scotland to Colonial New England to a modern-day college setting. Filmed in New London and at Old Ship Church in Hingham, Mass., the episode begins to explore the 10-generation relationship that haunts a young legacy student at a small, private New England college.
Two short senior Capstone videos will round out the evening. Lauren McKinney '14 presents “A Capstone Experience for the New London Historical Society,” and Carly Stevens shows “Where Hospice and the Arts Meet,” her promotional video for Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire.

About Hammer and Saw Films
Hammer and Saw Films was founded in 2008 by Colby-Sawyer alumni Will Peters and Mike Mooney. Their first short film, “Motel,” won Best of Fest at the Rochester International Film Festival and the Slightly North of Boston Film Festival.
“Exit 7A” screened at 21 film festivals in the U.S. and won The Best of Fest award at The Filmshift Festival, Best Short Thriller at Somewhat North of Boston Film Festival, and the Audience Award at the Buffalo International Film Festival and The New England Online Film Festival. “Exit 7A” has also been selected for deadline magazine's Best International Short Thriller award in Munich, Germany.
