Colby-Sawyer College Student Brings Old Time Radio to a New Generation in her Senior Capstone Project

NEW LONDON, N.H., April 5, 2007 – The Sunapee Kearsarge Intercommunity Theatre (SKIT), along with a senior student at Colby-Sawyer College, will bring old-time radio theater back to the community.

A radio theater production produced by Lauri Baudanza '07, “Grim Scary Tales: the Pirates' Curse,” will be recorded live on Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in Wheeler Hall at the Ware Campus Center. The production will be open to the community, and admission is free.

Baudanza will create the radio theater production of a SKIT performance as her senior capstone project, a requirement for her major in communication studies. The play, “Grim Scary Tales: The Pirates' Curse,” is a horror story about an old sea captain's encounters with pirates and the woman of his dreams.

With the help of SKIT, Baudanza has cast the show with college and community actors, along with sound effects engineers. With a modern script written by audio-dramatist and sound effects artist Tony Palermo, Baudanza hopes to bring the old-time radio experience to a new generation of listeners, as well as to older generations who have already enjoyed radio theater.

Debra Morgan of Wilmot, N.H., is the show's host, with student Alicia Harris '07 and Carol Ryder of Andover serving as the commercial break spokespeople. Actors who will play the roles of pirates and Spaniards include Humanities Professor Patrick Anderson and Judy Lowe of Sutton, William Egge of Danbury, Charley Freiberg and Jay Lambert of Wilmot, Tom Maloof of New London, Caleb Parsons and Rick Roberts of Warner, Doug Ryder of Andover, Caitlin Waltzer of Sunapee and Adele Warner of Georges Mills. Sound effects artists include Brenda Balenger of Sunapee, Alice Field of New London, Linda Lambert and Bonnie Lewis of Wilmot, and Cody Scherer of Springfield.
