Colby-Sawyer College Welcomes 15 New Faculty Members
Fifteen full-time faculty members will join seven academic departments this fall. The new faculty members are Jonathan McCosh and Michael Lynch in Business Administration; Marc Lodyga in Exercise and Sport Sciences; Nicholas Gaffney and Suzanne Delle in Fine and Performing Arts; Hanlong Fu, Paul Robertson and Rachel Fredericks in Humanities; Darrell Kuykendall in Natural Sciences; Amanda Fay in Nursing and Public Health; and Darius Kalvaitis, Diane Edwards, Catherine Turcotte, Omari Jackson and Nicole Heller in Social Sciences.
Jonathan McCosh joins the Business Administration department as an assistant professor with a focus on marketing and corporate finance. He holds a D.B.A. with a post-doctoral concentration in marketing from H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University in Florida and a M.B.A from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. Prior to Colby-Sawyer, Professor McCosh served as an administrator and financial manager at the State of New Hampshire's Department of Health and Human Services since 1998.
Also joining the Business Administration department as assistant professor is Michael Lynch. Professor Lynch holds a Master of Liberal Arts in finance from Harvard University Extension School and a M.B.A from Babson College. Prior to this position, he served as a controller at Diacom Corporation in Amherst, N.H., since 2004. Professor Lynch will teach courses in financial accounting and financial reporting and analysis.
The Exercise and Sport Sciences Department welcomes Marc Lodyga as assistant professor. He will teach personal health and wellness and health promotion. Professor Lodyga served as an instructor and graduate teaching assistant at Southern Illinois University for more than three years prior to joining Colby-Sawyer. He holds a Ph. D. in health education from Southern Illinois University and a M.S. in applied health science – human development and family studies – from Indiana University.
Nicholas Gaffney returns to Colby-Sawyer College this fall as full-time faculty, having been a visiting assistant professor in the Fine and Performing Arts department since 2008. Professor Gaffney holds a M.F.A. in photography from Pratt Institute and a B.A. in English from New York University. He worked as an instructor in the Visual Communications Department at Gibbs College in New Jersey before coming to Colby-Sawyer. Professor Gaffney will teach the history of photography and digital arts foundations.
Prior to joining Colby-Sawyer, Suzanne Delle was assistant professor of theatre, artistic director of Casino Theatre, and most recently was head of the theatre program at Salve Regina University, R.I. She joins the faculty with a M.F.A. in directing from Catholic University, a M.A. in arts administration from Goucher College in Maryland and a B.A. in theatre from Connecticut College. Professor Delle will teach courses on theatre appreciation, acting studio, and directing and stage management.
Hanglong Fu, a former visiting assistant professor of Humanities, returns to Colby-Sawyer College. Professor Fu holds a Ph. D. in mass communication from the University of Connecticut and a M.A. in mass communication from Washington State University. He will teach internet publishing, digital media and new media technologies.
Also joining the Humanities Department in a visiting capacity for the next two years is Paul Robertson, who was adjunct faculty at Colby-Sawyer prior to the appointment. He holds a Ph.D. in religious studies from Brown University and a B.A. in classics/religion from Reed College. Professor Robertson is proficient in Greek and Latin and competent in Syriac, French and German.
Rachel Fredericks, who holds a Ph.D. and a M.A. in philosophy from University of Washington and a B.A. in philosophy from Reed College, also joins the department as assistant professor. Last year she served as visiting assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at Fort Lewis College in Colorado; she will teach biomedical ethics and foundation of ethics courses at Colby-Sawyer.
Darrell Kuykendall joins the Natural Sciences Department as assistant professor with a B.S. in chemistry from California State University at Bakersfield and a Ph. D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Professor Kuykendall was previously an assistant professor and chair of the chemistry department at Eastern Oklahoma State College. He will teach organic chemistry and chemical principles.
Prior to joining the Nursing and Public Health Department as a full-time assistant professor, Amanda Fay was an adjunct clinical professor at Colby-Sawyer College for two years. She holds a M.S.N. in nursing education from Walden University in Minnesota and an associate degree in nursing from New Hampshire's River Valley Community College. Professor Fay will teach clinical nursing courses.
Darius Kalvaitis joins Colby-Sawyer College as assistant professor of Social Sciences and Education. Prior to this position, he served as assistant professor at the University of Hawai'i Hilo for six years. He holds a Ph. D. in curriculum and instruction from Utah State University and a M.Ed. in elementary and early childhood education from Antioch New England Graduate School. Professor Kalvaitis will teach child development and education courses.
Diane Edwards joined Colby-Sawyer College as associate professor and director of the teacher education program in January 2013. Prior to this position, she served four years as the director of Child Development Laboratory School at Eastern New Mexico University. Her expertise lies in early childhood development, teacher education, program management, course development and instruction. Professor Edwards will teach child development.
Catherine Turcotte was assistant professor at University of Maine in Augusta prior to joining the Social Sciences and Education department at Colby-Sawyer College. She holds a Ph. D. and a M.A. in sociology from University of New Hampshire. She will teach race and ethnic relations as well as other sociology courses.
Before joining the Social Sciences and Education Department as assistant professor to teach sociology, Omari Jackson was a graduate teaching assistant at Wayne State University (WSU) in Michigan for a year. He also served as an assistant professor and director of the criminal justice program at Concordia University – Ann Arbor. Professor Omari holds a M.A. from WSU and will earn his Ph.D. from WSU this year.
The Social Sciences and Education Department also welcomes Nicole Heller as assistant professor of psychology. She holds a B.A. in psychology and English from Wittenberg University in Ohio, and will earn a Ph.D. in developmental psychology this year from University of Maine in Orono, Maine.
