Colby-Sawyer Singers Host Annual Holiday Concert

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College Singers will present the 2014 annual holiday concert on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Sawyer Center Theater in the Sawyer Fine and Performing Arts Center. General admission tickets are $5 or free with a Colby-Sawyer ID and are available here or through the Sawyer Center Box Office (603-526-3670 or boxoffice@colby-sawyer.edu).

Under the direction of Adjunct Assistant Professor of Fine and Performing Arts Jean Liepold, an ensemble of 27 students and 13 community members are set to perform classic and modern holiday selections. Performances include Randall Thompson's “Alleluia,” Paul McCartney's “Wonderful Christmastime,” Mike Himelstein's “Gettin' in the Mood,” and Ellen Foncannon's spoof on Bach's Fugue in G Minor, “Cold and Fugue Season.” Students enrolled in this semester's Music Appreciation course will join the ensemble and play “Carol of the Russian Children” on tone chimes and recorders. “[There isn't a] better way to 'appreciate' music than to perform in an ensemble,” said Professor Liepold.

Several Colby-Sawyer choir members will also perform solo or duet selections, including “Baby, It's Cold Outside,” “Winter Snow” and “White Christmas.”

Professor Liepold cherishes the experience that she has had working with the participating students and community members. “It's all about the bass, 'bout the bass, and treble,” she said. “Such a great bunch!” A voice and piano instructor, Professor Liepold holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education – Piano from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching – Piano from Connecticut College.
