Colby-Sawyer College Presents 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown'

NEW LONDON, N.H., Oct. 8, 2007 – The Colby-Sawyer College Fine and Performing Arts Department will present “You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” a musical based on the newspaper comic strip by Charles M. Schulz, as its fall theater production.

The show will open Thursday, Nov. 1, at 8 p.m., with performances continuing through Friday, Nov. 2, and Saturday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m., at the Sawyer Fine Arts Center.

“You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is a two-act musical that follows the anxious yet lovable Charlie Brown as he struggles to get through a typical day in his life. The show also follows the experiences of the crabby fuss-budget Lucy Van Pelt, her philosophizing and blanketed brother Linus, and Charlie Brown's day-dreaming pet dog, Snoopy. Directed by students Sarah Hayes and Jillian Whitney, the musical features a cast of student actors and Colby-Sawyer staff members.

The cast will star Andrew Francis '11 as Charlie Brown, Sarah Hayes '08 as Lucy Van Pelt, Robert Wardwell '08 as Schroeder, John McCarthy '11 as Linus Van Pelt, Jillian Whitney '09 as Sally Brown, and fitness center coordinator Pan Sanborn as Snoopy.

The musical, with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, debuted off-Broadway in 1967. Four years later, when the musical was brought to Broadway, it enjoyed critical and financial success. After being adapted for television twice, once in 1973 and again as an animated feature in 1985, the show was the subject of a Broadway revival in 1999, receiving four Tony Awards nominations and winning awards for Best Actor and Best Actress.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors, and may be reserved through the Box Office at 526-3670 or purchased at the door.
