Colby-Sawyer College to Show Peter Shaffer's 'Black Comedy'

NEW LONDON, N.H., March 2, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College Fine and Performing Arts Department will present “Black Comedy,” a farce by Peter Shaffer, on April 5, 6 and 7 in the Sawyer Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. The play is open to the public and tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for students and free to the Colby-Sawyer College community

First performed in 1965, “Black Comedy” is the story of artist Brindsley Miller's (Ian Whipple) night of triumph, which ends when a blown fuse in his apartment unravels his and his girlfriend's (Krislyn Roussea) celebratory plans and results in the worst night of their lives. Produced by Michael Lovell and directed by students as part of a collaborative effort of the Performing Arts Department's directing workshop, the characters are finding their way in the dark, making for mistaken identities, zany antics and much stumbling and deception.

Chris Thompson plays the millionaire art director who wishes to buy Brindsley's sculpture and Rebecca Stout plays Brindsley's other love interest, Clea. Other characters include Shuppanzigh the electrician, played by Zach Matson; Carol's gruff father, played by Christian Coffman; the flamboyant neighbor Harold, played by Meghan Burrows; and the lovable Mrs. Furnival, played by Christine Wertz.
