welcome letter for fall 2011
To all incoming international students:
Congratulations on your acceptance to Colby-Sawyer College for the Fall of 2011!! David Elliott, Director of International Student Services, and I would like to welcome you and let you know how excited we are to meet all of you this fall! International students are asked to come early for a special International Student Orientation before the regular freshman orientation. Check-in and registration will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30th in Thornton Living Room, Colgate Hall. That evening, we will begin our orientation with a special dinner off campus. You can arrive anytime that day and begin staying in the residence halls Tuesday evening. (Note: International students have the option of arriving one day early if travel schedules require, so if you need to arrive on Monday, August 29th, please contact me to make arrangements in advance.) Orientation for all first year students begins on Friday at noon, so this gives international students two extra days (Wednesday and Thursday) to have a more in-depth orientation to the campus and surrounding area, along with some fun before the regular orientation begins! The full orientation schedule will be posted soon.
Travel Plans: Please be aware when making your travel plans that there is no easy public transportation from Manchester Boston Regional Airport, located in Manchester, NH to Colby-Sawyer. Therefore, please schedule your flight into Boston Logan International Airport in Boston, where you can take the Dartmouth Coach bus right to New London from the airport. You can arrange to be picked up at the bus stop here in town and brought to campus by contacting our office ahead of time. My office phone is: 603-526-3719. Please email me your schedule so we can make arrangements ahead of time.
Big Book: The “BIG BOOK” should give you all the information you need and more! Read it carefully and let me know if you have any questions. Be sure to fill out and send in the Health Forms and the Financial Forms as soon as possible. You cannot move into your room until you are cleared by the Health Center and have paid in full for the fall semester in the Financial Services office. Colby-Sawyer requires that all students have health insurance coverage, and does offer health insurance to students who need it at an additional cost. Make sure you schedule an appointment with your doctor for a physical examination, fill out the forms and have your doctor sign it. These must be sent in to the health center BEFORE you arrive!
Friendship Families: We would like to match each new student with a local family as soon as possible so you can have a connection off campus and begin corresponding over the summer. Please fill out the Friendship Family form and send it in along with all your other forms. You can fill it out online and email it back to me or print it, fill it in by hand, scan, and send as an attachment.
