International Orientation 2012 Schedule

Tuesday 8/28

10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Check-In, Thornton Living Room, Colgate Hall (Bring I-20, VISA, etc.)

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Lunch available in Wheeler Hall after check-in.

12 - 5:30 p.m. - Get settled in rooms with help of Orientation Leaders after registering. Check in with Baird Health & Counseling Center & computer staff.

4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Dinner in Wheeler Hall with Orientation Leaders.

5:45 p.m. Vans to International Student Dessert Party off campus – Meet in Thornton Living Room

Wed 8/29

7 - 8 a.m. – Breakfast in Wheeler Hall with Orientation Leader and small group.

8:15 - 10 a.m. - Meeting with International Student Services (ISS) staff, Writing Sample – Clements Hall, Ivey.

10 - 11 a.m. – Campus Scavenger Hunt (Visit various offices to learn about your resources).

11 - 11:30 a.m. – Talk with Safety Officer (Clements Hall, Ivey)

11:30 - 12:30 p.m. – Lunch in Wheeler Hall - Meet staff & get introduction to dining hall set-up.

1:00 - 1:30 p.m. – Talk with Student Development – Clements Hall, Ivey

2:30 – 4:30 p.m. - FREE TIME to get settled in room, rest (Optional van to lake for swimming. Meet in Thornton Living Room, Colgate Hall at 3.)

4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Dinner in Wheeler Hall with orientation leader

5:45 p.m. - Shopping Trip (bring your own $ - Meet in Thornton Living Room)

Thurs 8/30

7:00 – 8 a.m. - Breakfast in Wheeler Hall (Individual)

8:15 – 10:15 a.m. - The American Classroom and Culture Shock – David Elliott & Faculty, Clements Hall, Ivey

10:15 - 11:15 a.m. - Immigration Regulations – Talk with International Student Advisor, Clements Hall

11:30a.m. – 12:00 p.m. - Lunch in Wheeler Hall

12:00 – 12:45 p.m. - Dessert Reception with President Tom Galligan & Administrators - Tom Galligan; Dean of Students, Dave Sauerwein; Vice President of Enrollment, Greg Matthews; Associate Dean of International and Diversity Programs, Pamela Serota-Cote; Academic Dean, Burton Kirkwood; International Admissions Counselor, Jen Smith; International Admissions Counselor, Kate Newick; and International Student Services Director, David Elliott (Back yard of President Tom Galligan's house across Main Street from Colgate Hall)

1:00 – 2:30 p.m. – Computer Workshop/Library & ADC Tour Reichhold 111 (Bring laptop if you have one. Meet in Thornton Living Room at 12:55.)

2:30 -3:30 p.m. - Session with Baird Health and Counseling Center Staff – Clements Hall, Ivey

3:30 - 4:30 p.m. - FREE TIME

4:30 – 5:30 p.m. - Dinner in Wheeler Hall

5:45 p.m. - Van leaves for Friendship Family/Student Dessert Reception at Musterfield Farm (Meet in front on Wheeler Hall)

8:00 p.m. - Evening Activity with Orientation Leaders (Lodge)

Fri 8/31

7 – 8 a.m. - Breakfast in Wheeler Hall

8:30 - 11 a.m. - Walking tour of town (Scavenger Hunt) – Meet on front lawn in front of Colgate Hall.

11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. - Outdoor BBQ for all freshmen & their families on the quad

1:30 p.m. - Regular orientation begins in Sawyer Center.
