B.A. in Creative Writing
The major in Creative Writing prepares students to publish their writing, pursue writing and literature in graduate school and use creative writing and literature as tools to understand themselves and their world. Graduates often enter professions that require excellent communications skills.
Minor in Writing for Publication
The minor in Writing for Publication explores writing fiction, nonfiction, poetry and plays, and can be combined with any baccalaureate degree. Students who enroll in this minor should be interested in making writing an important element in their lives both during and after their college careers.

Scholarships
In addition to the many scholarships which all Colby-Sawyer students are eligible for, incoming students may apply for the Special Talent Scholarships in Creative Writing by submitting samples of their poetry and/or fiction.
The English faculty make recommendations for this scholarship. More information about merit scholarships is available on the Admissions web site.
Capstone Project
Every Colby-Sawyer senior completes a Capstone project, a culmination of work in their fields of study that allows them to demonstrate a deep understanding of a body of knowledge and perspectives informed by that knowledge. Visit My Capstone Experience to find out more about student capstones.
Creative Writing majors will prepare and present a creative thesis consisting of their best work (length requirements to vary depending upon genre). Additionally, students will write a craft and reflection essay, demonstrating special knowledge in an area of their choice. This essay will serve as the foundation for a seminar to be facilitated by the student.
Additional Curricula Opportunities…
Students who go on to further studies in law, medicine, veterinary practice and physical therapy can combine any Colby-Sawyer major with a course of study that will prepare them for the next academic step.
