women's studies

The Humanities Department at Colby-Sawyer offers a minor in Women's Studies founded on a strong theoretical base that the student encounters in his or her introduction to Women's Studies. The sequence of required courses is designed to foster critical thinking by encouraging informed examination of the student's own life. The minor can be combined with any major.

Independent Study

With permission of the instructor and the department chair, qualified students may develop independent study courses in areas not ordinarily offered at the college. Each independent study course is developed in consultation with a faculty member in the Humanities Department. Only one independent study course may be used to meet the requirements for the minor.

The Harrington Center for Career and Academic Advising

Students are encouraged to use the resources of the Harrington Center for Career and Academic Advising, where they can meet with a counselor to explore career options, internship opportunities and graduate schools.

Women's Studies Faculty…

Students who choose to minor in Women's Studies learn from experienced faculty who are well-versed in topics in women's studies, from gender and sport to images of women in literature and analyzing the representation of gender in media.
