Red Trillium Trillium erectum
Lily Liliaceae family
Leaves, and all parts for trilliums, are in 3's. Red trillium has a single whorl of 3 large leaves that are barely stalked.

The flower is solitary, dark red (more maroon), ill-scented, and on a short stalk. 3 petals are 1/2 - 1 1/2" long. 3 sepals are evident as well, and will be left after the flower has gone by.
Form/Habitat:Red trillium prefers rich, moist woods. 6-20" high. Blooms in May (a week or so after the painted trillium).
