Leaves: Green and flat. Stiff, upright stalks that bulge at the base.
Form/Habitat: Grows up to 3.5' tall. Wet places, swamps and marshes. Bur-reed often has its "feet wet."

The flower or female inflorescnce is a round hard, spiky ball made from smaller tear-shaped sacs.
